Stomach taco
Not much new to report today...for breakfast, though, I had a taco made of cow stomach. It was really sick, actually, and pretty slimy. Yeah, I don´t think I´ll be trying that one again anytime soon. I had a bite of a cow intestine taco and that one was really good. It tasted like turkey. When you come to Mexico, remember...intestines good, stomach bad. Next on my list is brain taco. Yum, yum, yum.
Why I should stay in Mexico forever: No one is ever on time, which means that no one gets mad when I´m late. Why I should not stay in Mexico forever: Mexicans like to keep the inside of their houses very, very clean.
I think I´m heading to Mexico City in about 3 and a half weeks! I guess it´s so huge it takes 4 and a half hours to drive across the city one way. Very exciting. Yes, I´ll be very careful =)
Missing my home routine a little bit. Today, I wanted to walk back to the base and eat and take a nap but couldn´t because I needed to stick with Brisa. I am realizing over and over that I´m not on my own schedule and I´m becoming used to a small sacrifice of personal freedom. If you can call it that, when I´m by myself in a foreign country =) Trying to make the best of the downtimes. When I get bored, I find a Bible to read (we´re usually in the YWAM office) or remember Spanish words I wanted to look up. The Spanish-English dictionary has become my best friend.
How I am with God right now...I kind of feel like he´s some rich uncle who lives far away but gets wind of what I need and sends it to me. I can´t even begin to count how many gifts God´s given me since I´ve been here and he´s answered every single one of my prayers. But I want to know him, personally and intimately.
Please let me know how you guys are doing, whoever´s reading this. I don´t want to hold a one-way conversation =)

Hey Lacey, it's Jed. You said you didn't want to hold a one-way conversation... so 'Hi' :-). Glad to hear things are going pretty well for you down there. Your descriptions of Mexican cuisine make me thankfull God is sending me on a stateside mission. I know some of that stuff I don't think I could ever attempt to stomach. Again, I'm finding myself thankful to be sent stateside. I always wanted to go to Germany but some of the food there I'm not sure I could handle. No cow brain tacos, but the Germans have somthing called 'Bluetwurst': blood sausage. I have a friend on his mission in Hohenstein right now. He's never said anything about it, I only hope he hasen't had to tackle that 'delacacy' (I know I misspelled that one).
Dude, (or in your case: 'dudette' :-)) it was rather odd yesterday, watching the news, seeing the long-ish range forcast and seeing Aug. 4 on their and thinking, 'I wonder what it'll be like in Utah' (where the Missionary Training Center is). Oui! I think I have everything I need. I'll find out when I start packing tomorrow. I'm beginning to see how you felt just before you left. Oui again! I leave Monday, early in the morning. Four days to cram in all the goofing off I've been really meaning to do.
Again, I'm glad things are going well for you. I just got one word for you though: antacids :-).
Ok, seriously... remember the words of Isaiah: "Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows... he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities..." (Isaiah 53: 4,5). In taking upon himself our sorrows, sins, and our ouwn stripes, Christ knows us all, in a way more intimatly than we can fathom. Our Father in heaven knows us just as well, being our creator, he know exactly what makes each of us tick, how we will behave and endure all things. Look at Job. God knew that no matter what Satan threw at him, Job would not sin against God. Both The Father and the Son know us perfectly; to know of them all we have to do are:
1) Study the scriptures: In learning of the words of God we learn of Him. That goes withought saying I think.
2) Pray always: "Yea, and cry unto God for all thy support; yea, let all thy doings be unto the Lord, and whithersoever thou goest let it be unto the Lord; yea, let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord Forever. Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings, and he will direct thee for good; yea, when thou liest down at night lie down unto the Lord, that he may watch over you in your sleep; and when thou risest in the morning, let thy heart be full of thanks unto God..." This is a scripture form the Book of Mormon (Alma 37: 36,37). Prayer I'd say is what brings us closer to God than just about anything, in prayer, for the humble of heart our will is brought to meet His, and if we're lucky, we have a glimpse of what he sees. If not, then I'm sure we'll see his wisdom after the trial of our faith.
3) Keep his commandments. The Lord dwelleth not in unholy temples. Did not Paul teach us this? How can the Holy Spirit be there with us to guide us if we keep not his commandments. This I'm sure I don't need to tell you about. In keeping his commandments, we have his Spirit to be with us, to guide us and direct us.
In these things, we come to be more like God, and inso doing we come to know of Him. In doing this, our relationship with his is strengthened.
This is just my own PERSONAL opinion (not to be confused with docterine) but I'd say prayer is probably the key element more than anything for having a close, personal relationship with our Father in heaven. I think of Tevia from 'Fiddler on the Roof' He spent his day conversing with God as if talking to an old friend walking at his side. There was a missionary in my church like that, his companion would hear him muttering every once and again, he was just praying and his words happened to become audible. He was one of the most spiritual missionaries out there. That spirituality comes from a close relationship with our Maker and our Redeemer. It will all come in time, we can't expect to be Moses or Esther overnight. To become like that in a lifetime would still be an awsome acheivement. Think of the apostle Peter, after all his time side-by-side with Christ, he still denied him thrice. He had a testimony of the Savior, but he just wasn't fully converted at that time. That came later, with more time, paitence, and dilligence to his calling and to the comandments.
Study your scriptures, keep His commandments, and pray always to Him, and your relationship with Him will grow.
Anyway, hope all continues to be awsome for you. I'll try and write you in Mexico while I'm down in Utah getting trained and prepped for my mission. God Bless.
Smile Always,
-Jed

ooh... Mexico City!! Sounds fun. I went with Ludgate and Mahoney during spring break senior year. It was cool. If you have the time and money then you should try to go and see the Folklorico Ballet - it's really good!! And they have this cool screen that's completely made of Tiffany glass. Anyway, if you don't make it then I have it on DVD. We should get together when you come back!! I hope you're having lots of fun!!

When you get home, I'll have to invite you out for a good American meal! It's amazing to me to see what you are doing, and I want you to know that even though we're not too close yet, I'm very proud of you. It sounds like it's everything that you wanted... challanges, comittments, people relying on you... WOW!
I know that you are coming back with a gazzilion pictures, so I'll prepare myself to spend a couple of nights looking at pics and discussing your experience! ( can't wait, actually!!) Keep safe, and keep praying!
All the Best,
Fred
